Artist Biography

Larry Burge

Larry Burge lives and paints in eastern North Carolina. His paintings represent the coastal area, in an especially dramatic and realistic way. Larry's style is very detailed as he indicates his "interests and strengths are in design."

Burge paints with acrylics on masonite panels. He gets his stimulus from both his visual and his emotional experiences. Usually he spends from four to six weeks, and sometimes longer, on a single painting. To Larry Burge, "art is a universal form of communication, which transcends any language barrier, and I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment when the viewer experiences an emotion that gives him satisfaction, or perhaps recalls something from his past."

His one-man exhibits have included: Village Smith Galleries, Winston-Salem; Collector's Gallery, Cary; Ballantyne Framing and Art Gallery, New Bern; Summersill Gallery in Havelock; and, shows for the Kinston and Craven County Arts Councils. His work appeared on the cover of Carolina Country magazine in April of 1986. His group exhibits include the Remarque Gallery in High Point; Spartanburg Arts Center in Spartanburg, SC, where he received a Merit Award; the Snyder Gallery in Charlotte; and, the Weyerhaeuser Art Exhibit in Grifton, among others.

Larry Burge's work is represented in many corporate and private collections, including R.J.R. Nabisco, Wachovia Bank, and Trotman's Gallery in Winston-Salem. Limited-edition prints of Burge's work are distributed nationally by Salem Graphics, Inc., Winston-Salem.
